Source Catalogs
Pedro Osuna.

P. presented the requirements and first sketch out of the catalog
modeling effort initiated in Pune . Input from XMM catalogs, (Matteo
Guanazzi) to define UML objects an attributes .

Are there UML objects to model the *astronomical* objects like galaxy,
star, etc... 

Connections to other DM: CatalogDM could reuse STC and SED.
P. asks for review of the objects and attributes proposed. 
Ed Shaya and Brian thomas worked out some example of a catalog serialisation.
Should Xmatch tools use this source DM ?

JCM emphasized that source DM elements can be in the query,
not just the selection of output cols.
Pedro: yes,
it will provide a more homogeneous way.
as a data provider, it requires that the view of your DB matches the DM. 
and this would be good way to homogenize the access.

Andy Lawrence: limited needs because the tools are different.

Pb : what is a source ? (F. Ochsenbein)
ex of binary stars: Orbit info is not the only thing .
Several people made the distinction between object (thing in
space) and source (set of photons detected from the object).
Generic attribute for an object : orbit/ distance/ 
identification and 
classification step is important to match a source to an astronmical object.
This should be designed in more details..
Igor : we should consider the use case of source extraction.

STC 
Arnold Rots

STC requirement : we need to perform coords description and transformation.
Some enhancements listed to meet requirements of other WGs.
STC have been incorporated into Resource metadata and SkyNode.
STC are used in AST library of Starlink from David Berry, so
2 partial implementations.
Full implementation required before end of 2005.
Asks for a XML review board.
road map: implementing the enhancements for next version 1.2.2
these are tweaks but not real changes.
Extend RFC period to end of June.

STC ok as is if tweaks are ok and schema accepted
- but Gerard suggested improvements to form (UML + XML)



Characterisation DM: 

QuantityDM interaction: Do not wait for Qty to be approved. Extract the
relevant pieces for the Charac DM. Would be implemented in DAL. as well.

Foot print service library in AST lib. Look at Starlink web page  need
for the software that computes bounds from support for ex.  FB: Diff
level of charac compatibility : one for simple access , another for full
coos transform?   jcm : where do we put software architecture things ?
Error handling in the VO? to the application group?

SED implementation for adass. RFC by end of 2005
Spectral line data : ML Dubernet & Pedro,  WD by next summer. 

Observation Provenance  2006? 
IFU data,Igor,Alberto,CDS and ? 

DM catalog : inputs to be delivered before ADASS 2005.

how to write correct and adequate XML Schemas: we should issue an IVOA
note to give indications and caveats to realise the XML schema
generation by end of the year.  

Quantity DM:
Use the work before rec., and keep it visible. rfc by 2006?
