Applications 1. Tue 15, 8:30-10:00 (parallel VOTable, Theory1) -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Updated SkyMouse and lessons learned from its development China VO Team Some new functions added into SkyMouse since last Moscow meeting will be introduced. Some feeling about current VO Registry and services will also be discussed. 2. Montage Bruce Berriman Montage composes mosaics of input FITS images. It preserves the positional and calibration fidelity of the images that it is compositing, and rectifies the atmospheric emission in ground-based images to a common level. It supports the many *nix environments used by astronomers. The software is deployed as a toolkit, written in ANSI C, that contains independent modules for performing the tasks needed to produce a mosaic; these modules are controlled through simple executives. Generating mosaics of scientific quality is computationally and I/O expensive. Montage has exploited two types of parallelization, MPI and Pegasus ("Planning for Execution on Grids") to improve performance, and is a driver application for generating more efficient grid planning and execution tools. Montage has found wide applicability in astronomy, such as in product generation, data analysis, E/PO activities and quality assurance. I will describe the design an applications of Montage, and give an overview of current and future development efforts, including an on-request image mosaic portal that we intend to deploy presently. 3. Resource-centric access to VO' Noel WINSTANLEY I'll demonstrate a registry resource browser that allows users to bookmark sets of resources. These resource sets can then be queried in bulk, either graphically, or by automatic generation of science scripts. I'd also like to develop some ideas for resource interchange between applications - via PLASTIC and other means. 4. Deoyani Nandrekar VOPlot family, VOCat and VOStat Applications 2. Tue 15, 14:00-15:30 (parallel GWS2, Theory2) ------------------------------------------------------------ 5. New Functionalities with VOSpec and Interoperability Isa BARBARISI We present the latest updates of VOSpec, inluding support to the new SSAP protocol and Graphic improvements. Also VOSpec supports the initial version of Plastic specification, talking with other VO-clients like Astroscope and Aladin. 6. Aladin 4 in the VO Pierre FERNIQUE In a short demo, I will present the new features in official Aladin v4 related to the VO, notably the Plugin capability, the Plastic integration and the IDL Aladin library. 7. The NOAO NVO Portal Christopher J. Miller, NOAO The NOAO NVO Portal is a recently deployed web application for one-stop discovery, analysis, and access to VO-compliant imaging data and services. The current release allows for GUI-based discovery of nearly two million images from archives such as the NOAO Science Archive, the HST WFPC2 and ACS instruments, XMM-Newton, Chandra, SDSS among others. The NOAO Portal enables users to view image metadata, footprint wireframes, and FITs previews. It provides one-click access to science quality imaging data throughout the entire sky: all via a Mozilla/Firefox web browser (i.e., no applet or code to download). Users can stage images from multiple archives at an NOAO NVO Portal for quick and easy bulk downloads and gain direct access to VO analysis services, such as the WESIX catalog generation service. The next release will include proprietary data discovery and access through an implementation of the NVO Single-Sign-On mechanism. We high- light a few of the many features of the NOAO NVO Portal (www.nvo.noao.edu) 8. Using PLASTIC for communicating between data archive and client software: application to IFU spectra. Igor CHILINGARIAN I will run a short demo presenting how complex datasets such as 3D spectra can be delivered and handled in the VO. PLASTIC is used to achieve a high level of integration between data archive (PLASTIC-aware HTML pages) and VO client tools (ESA VOSpec, CDS Aladin). I will present VO-Paris Euro3D Client -- dedicated software to deal with data in the Euro3D FITS format that uses CDS Aladin and ESA VOSpec to display reconstructed images and extracted spectra. 9. Tools for implementing S.I.A ans S.S.A Regis Haigron on behalf of VO-Paris VO.Paris Data Center has developped a set of tools to provide access to data for service providers. - For S.S.A development : * A PERL package created by I. Chilingarian which is compliant with version 0 and 0.97 (the last one). This package can be used around any database server and manage SSA error handling. * package is used for GIRAFFE, FUSE.... - For S.I.A development : * A PERL package which is compliant with version 1.0. This package is based on GIS coordinates and postgresql database system. * A C program for doing fast cutout in images * A XSL stylesheet proposing human readable votable * package is used in MAMA ESOR service - First implementation of mosaic service These package has been coding for specific projects but with the idea to share them with the community. Applications 3. Tue 15, 16:00-17:30 (parallel VOQL1) ---------------------------------------------------- 10. Asynchronous services from NVO Roy WILLIAMS The NVO offers a service framework called Nesssi, a home for long-running services for the astronomy community. Current services are for image mosaic, for cutouts of multiple sources from multiple surveys, and for coaddition of a synoptic survey. Small runs can be done anonymously, larger runs by registering with NVO, and very large runs if you have an account on the US Teragrid. NVO would be glad to host other, contributed services in the Nesssi framework 11. NOAO VOEvent Services and Clients Phillip WARNER NOAO VOEvent Services are a set of configurable components used for authoring, publishing, archiving, relaying, and subscribing to VOEvents. A discussion of the services and clients and their current status will be presented. 12. Scalability experiments using STIL Mark TAYLOR Using column-oriented storage and file mapping, benchmarks were run using STILTS and TOPCAT on very large tables (up to 100Gb). Performance 10-50 times better than MySQL was achieved for suitable queries. 13. Thomas BOCH, Markus DOLENSKY, Francois BONNAREL Footprint Description We will present a format allowing to describe and visualize instrument footprints on the sky. Developed by ESO and CDS in the frame of the VO-Tech project, it relies on VOTable and wraps a subset of STC structures used to describe the footprint. Motivations driving this development include preparation of telescope time-allocation proposals and visualization of the coverage of some observations coming from VO-compatible services, e.g SIAP. These use cases will be shown in two applications currently supporting this standard : the ESO visual browser, and the Aladin sky atlas from CDS. 14. FitHAS, an easy of use assistant tool for FITS data archiving China VO Team FITS Header Archiving System (FitHAS), provides graphic interface and wizard guiding an archive manager to extract header information for one or more FITS files and import it to a local or remote database system. 15.
