Christophe Arviset: Euro-VO Registry Weather Report

Euro-VO registry v3.0.1 released March 2022
simplify compliance runs, fix some issues, new RegTAP implementation
Validators for SCSv1.03, SIAv1&v2, SSAv1.1. external validator for TAP1.0
unexpected features - issue with test URL's, query position errors
compliance:
    SCS overall pretty good, large number of CDS services
    SIAPv1.0: about half fully compliant, many partial compliant
    SIAv2 - nearly the same proportions
    SSAv1.1: large number of new services from Spanish VO boosted compliance
    TAP1.0: all services seem to be having some issues.
    TAP1.1: very few fully compliant, 62/109 require "request=doQuery" which was removed in 1.1
Conclusions
validation runs now 2x/month
Euro-VO registry validators will be updated to fix some issues
more detailed analysis for most common issues will be presented at next interop

discussion:
    Mark Taylor: re TAP1.1 and "request=doQuery", should fix services.
    James Dempsey: maybe make it clear in the TAPv1.1 spec that this (doQuery) was removed?
    Pat Dowler: the removal of request and result version params is pretty clear in the TAPv1.1 spec

Data services - catalogs
over 1000 catalogs via SCS and TAP
96 SIA image services.
Most are generated from SkyView service
Others are based on mission archives
6 SSA services. not very many missions provide extracted spectra
Infrastructure services (through NAVO)
uptime monitoring, publishing registry, validation of service results, performance monitoring
Uptime monitor site shows some detail about individual provider, reasons for failures
site allows you to enter a URL to test
NAVO performance monitor. plotting time for basic queries, repeated regularly, plotted over long term. Helps identify unexpected changes in service reponse times, sometimes caused by a server issue or configuration/code change

    Are other people doing performance monitoring similar to this?
    Raffaele: can we request adding sites to the perf monitor tests?

Mark Taylor: Ops Progress and Issues

Will talk about standards that may need some action from the Ops perspective.
UCD's:
    looking at services and whether the UCD's they provide are compliant with standard.
    using Gregory Mantelet's UCD validation tool for that
VOUnits - improvements in compliance there changing things to VOUnit standard.
Sexigesimal - types stalled in DAL discussion from March.
suggestion to add xtypes "hms" and "dms" -- poll? [got a couple of +1's in the chat]
Sébastien Derriere: Of the remaining 10% vounits errors in VizieR, these account for 6%
UCD1 vs UCD1+:
    ConeSearch 1.0&1.1 require UCD1, not the newer version
    Asking DAL group to look into updating those standards
SSA improvements.
Theoretical SSA services not well served by Standards

SSA 1.1 sec 4.3.5.10 says coverage information is mandatory, but appendix A shows output where this is not done

unclear utype prefixing: ssa prefix not explained in document
Several misc items where minor standards updates/errata would be helpful

Discussion:

James D: thinking about SSA, if there are many errata, perhaps a small update would be the way to do it?
Mark Taylor - Does original text of SSA document still exist? if we're just making a few small patchups/errata, perhaps we can find and edit the old text, approve new PDF?
James: might be a good way to make a small update to old standard that is not likely to go forward in favor of other standards
