Project Progress Updates 1.1 NVO progress - reported by BH First cut at choosing broad scope science problems that were feasible to do. They were ranked according to a range of criteria. 3 themes chosen for focus of Jan 2003 demonstrator release: - brown dwarfs - GRB event followup service - computational - morphology of galaxies in clusters Main involvement SLOAN/2MASS plus possible inclusion of catalogues held at CDS timescale is for jan 2003 - Tom McGlynn - leading grb followup - Ray Plante leading gal m - Bruce Berriman - IPAC staff effort to help with search queries votable parsers - roy williams will release s/w (programmes) soon alex szalay/bob h gave presentation to NSF working group (29+30/Apr) - went well. NASA is committed to an NVO programme - first time heard them say this. VO is a good example of a nsf/nasa collaborative programme - fits with new us government policy. 1.2 AVO report from Peter Q - paris project meeting - reviewed work areas - science case focus for jan 2003 prototype. commitment decision by the june vo swg meeting. chile meeting - chile vo effort might be available as the community there is interested. 1.3 AG report from Andy L: recent oversight committee review of the project. overall a good report - concern focusing on delivering against clear objectives. 1.4 Issues: RW - what use is the semantic web AS - GLU vs WSDL as a topic at the VO conference - reserve a slot? PQ - feed this into the interoperability group meeting at the VO conf. ACTION: AS - will write down what the WSDL vs GLU issue is. AS - BM + CGP visiting Baltimore next week. voservices.org and voservices.net have been taken by AS. ACTION on bob hanisch and pq to get ivoa.org domain registered if possible - with some flexibility on name. 2) Level of participation in each others committees. good idea to put names down to get on each others lists. Announce meetings and invite attendance. ACTION: BH will send round an email to suggest options. ACTION: RW will set up the ivoa email archive 3) International VO roadmap. roadmap needs more substance - perhaps 3-5 more activities that we're working towards - get this sorted out by end of May. ACTION: All to suggest possible key activities for inclusion in the roadmap, BH to consolidate list. 4) Relation to Grid efforts. PQ - Astronomy efforts interacting with EU Grid efforts. Astronomy is well received, involved in GridStart and DataTAG - high speed networking - transatlantic AS - ask Peter Kuntz to talk at the VO conference re grid technologies. ACTION on PQ AL - AG and DBTF interaction. ACTION TL to disseminate DBTF info. 5) Garching conference - talk schedule now out. packed schedule - conf dinner tues evening - should arrange an ivoa exec dinner one evening. 6) SPIE conference - everybody accommodated. aug 25+26 are the VO session dates.
