The DAL group is currently working on technical note definition for use of basic footprint region definition to be used in the Simple DAL protocols. A summary of discussion for the near term use of footprint regions with DAL service protocols is available DALBasicFootprint here.

There in preliminary work in the development of a working draft for the Footprint Access Protocol. The working draft document is currently targeting the May 2012 IVOA interop to present to the DAL working group.
