(notes made during conversation with Marcus Brueggen on use of a simulation database)

Would like to be able to get information/query on:

  • size of box
  • time scales
  • physics used:
    • star formation
    • cosmology
    • hydro
    • particles
    • chemical reactions
    • nuclear reactions
    • gravity
    • radiation
    • MHD
    • cosmic rays
    • feedback
    • ...
  • algorithms used:
    • mesh resolution
    • amr
  • how many particles/cells
  • what is simulated
  • initial conditions (linked to target)
    • glassy
    • cosmological (initial redshift)
    • galaxy disk in equilibrium
    • galaxy merger configuration
    • galaxy cluster in hydrostatic equilibrium
  • resolution (not trivial to define)
    • size smallest grid cell
    • smallest smoothing radius SPH particles
    • gravitational (plumber) smoothing length
  • what is in results, mainly:
    • point particles
    • SPH particles
    • (adaptive) mesh cells
  • log files (for Flash in particular) very useful
