Guide for Registry Providers Ray Plante 5 minutes RegistryGuide
Registry Record Curation Theresa Dower 30 minutes
Validation Tools: Latest Developments Aurelien Stebe 30 minutes PDF

Notes:

Validation Tools Presentation was postponed to the Thursday session (see announcement).

Interoperability Issues: Theresa presented several specific issues to introduce the general issues (see slides):

  • resource records: Non-standard dates
  • Invalid data service access URLs: missing trailing & or ?
    • Jonathan Fay: while long-standing problem, is extremely mysterious and frustrating to the non-cognizant app developers
    • Guy: VOSI should help
    • Mike: have seen an erroneous mix of & and &
    • Guy/Matthew:
    • Theresa: RofR needs to check for AccessURL &
    • Mark: more concerned with problems I can't fix or detect

  • Fixing the problem: contact the publishing registry and/vs. original publisher
    • What can a publishing registry provider fix w/out publisher in the loop?
      • obvious spelling
      • namespace problems
      • XML syntatic errors (incl. accessURL)
      • breaking up subject entries
    • what requires involvement of original publisher?
      • rewording
      • deleted records/inactive services
      • Ray: Suggested process for handling consistently non-responding services:
        1. registry provider sends email to publisher to find out if service still maintained.
        2. if no response, provider may change status to "inactive".

Ray: Can publishing registry providers agree to response promptly to problem reports of the first kind?

Pierre: sample XML records would go along way
Ray: Great thing to include into RegistryGuide

Sebastien: has been experimenting with ontologies and keyword search; can move up or down in the ont. tree. Also experimenting with indexing records with canonical object names.

Session 2: Transitioning to VODataService; Next Extensions (Thursday, 11am)

Agenda:

  • Transitioning to VODataService
VODataService is completing its RFC; we next need to discuss its deployment.
  • VOStandard
  • RegSimpleDAL
