Defining ExecutionBroker Interfaces with OpenAPI: Lessons from Machine-Readable IVOA Standards |

The ExecutionBroker protocol is central to distributed job execution in the IVOA ecosystem. Traditionally, IVOA protocols are described in textual standards, which can leave room for interpretation. We are exploring the use of OpenAPI to define ExecutionBroker interfaces in a machine-readable way, enabling clearer, more precise specifications and potential automatic validation. While this approach has significant benefits, it also poses challenges in ensuring that real-world implementations align with the standard. In this talk, we will share our experience defining and testing ExecutionBroker with OpenAPI, highlighting successes, difficulties, and lessons learned for the wider IVOA community. |
