Agenda

    • welcome new members Stéphane Erard, SSIG chair, is online, Brigitta Sipocz, Apps vice-chair, sent regrets
    • positions still TBF Radio IG vice-chair role is open but Exec is working on it

    • VEPs
      • any?
      • new vocabularies?
        • Calibration levels ( DRAFT)
        • Object types ( DRAFT)
Some discussion and updates happening on both. Calibration vocab values will have obscore prefix. RFC for MANGO would like to use the latest, but is ready for PR. For REC, the terms used by MANGO would need to be approved.

Some discussion of object types for solar system objects (which are currently out of scope for object types). Extending that seems possible, but there are details to work out. Should look into overlap with UAT.

  • IVOA Northern Spring June 2025 Interoperability Meeting:
    • wrap up
    • feedback/feelings
MM: Despite small in-person group, the Interop proved useful. The hybrid system worked well and off-site people were included well during the sessions (though not between sessions).

JE: Good meeting that people clearly put a lot of work into it. Suggest not having parallel tracks.

MM: This was difficult due to slightly shorter meeting and demand for sessions.

BC: Happy with the remote experience. The tech worked well and the on-site people helped with the sessions. Remote participation is difficult especially due to time zones and local work demands (inability to be focus solely on the interop)

TJ: One of the more useful meetings she's experienced. Found the interaction with remote people was good. Still better to have more people in-person, but worked better than expected.

FC: Overall happy with how it turned out. Many more people registered for remote than actually showed up. For those that didn't show up, how can we better get than to engage.

MM: We did not ask people whether they were interested in whole meeting versus specific topics or sessions. Maybe that's something we can adjust to moving forward. Also some remote people joined on one connection, so Zoom list was a little misleading.

SE: When remote in another time zone, those days are too long to attend whole meeting.

BC: Maybe we can work people's interest into the schedule.

Auto-register for e-mails? No, let's not do that.

PF: First time CDS joined from a single location. More people joined than normal. People attended the sessios in which they were interested. The Strasbourg group had side discussions there as well. Biggest limitation is the time zone. Better than during the COVID time.

JS: Propose common calendar to work avoid conflicting meetings.

JJ: There is the CADC astronomy meetings calendar. Calendar subscription: webcal://ws-cadc.canfar.net/vault/files/dbohlender/CADC/astroMeetings.ics

TD: Could there be fewer parallel sessions, perhaps by not having sessions be tied to WG/IGs.

FC: Need to plan for heavily remote meetings

MM: Has heard the suggestion of having regional pre-meetings. Could help get more face to face contact while limiting travel expenses. European side has been lucky with tech forums that got enough people together to have some discussions.

  • DM interop discussion follow-up:
    • is it the goal of the IVOA to facilitate model driven analysis?
    • setting up an hack-a-thon/workshop to exercise/use data models in a full use case: all TCG groups involved

MM introduced the points above.

GL: Could to have mapping with models and those of open science and semantics.

MM: What is the interface between the DM and Semantics groups? Definitely overlapping concerns. Some simple models can be seen as concept listings.

MCD: Interface not very well defined. UCDs for example are a semnatic vocab representing model components. Adding hierarchy complicates things.

BC: This is a tricky subject. Like to have control lists used by models managed by semantics. Then there are many data models that could be modeled as ontologies as with the rest of the world (e.g., rdf). Then terms could map into tools already used in sematics world.

MM: Could this be part of the DM hackathon/workshop?

BC: Need concepts as URIs that can be used in the DMs. Want to be very cautious about making this too big a topic. From chat: for my last comment, it’s about using IVOA/DM classes /concepts as URI in other tools than DM/IVOA

MM: Open action for everyone: What, for your working group, could be your contribution to the DM hackathon/workshop? What does your group want to get out of it? Not just for chairs/vice-chairs; consult with your group. Especially relevant ask for Apps group.

  • Documents Standard revision: quick status report
  • Major version transitioning: role of ConeSearch -2.0
