Near the Hotels: Kirby Avenue and Neil Street

I know, it's mostly chain restaurants within walking distance of the conference, but there are a few gems in there.

Merry Ann's Diner (* L $)
This Champaign mainstay is the real-deal--everything you want from a true American diner. Open Late.
Find it: from the hotels, it's just across Neil Street on the far north corner with Kirby.
Espresso Royale (* $)
Coffee drinkers: If you are not staying at the I-Hotel, you wil probably be stopping here for a proper cupa.
Find it: On the hotel side of Neil street next door to the Hilton Garden Inn.
Cactus Grill (* $$)
Not the same ol' Mexican
Find it: Next door to Espresso Royale.
Jarling's Custard Cup (* $)
Who cares that it's November--this is the best frozen custard in town!
Find it: Walk west on Kirby Ave and find it on the south side, past State St
Seaboat (* $$)
The best fish-and-chips in town by folks who care about fresh fried fish. Throw in some soulful sides like fried okra or sweet potato pie. Worth the slightly longer walk.
Find it: Walk west on Kirby Ave and find it on the south side, just past Jarlings and Vinny's Pizza.

East Campus/Krannert Neighborhood

If you want to catch a show at either the Krannert Center for Performing Arts or the Canopy Club, know that there are some nice places to get food and/or coffee before or after the show. You can get to this area via the Gold bus.

The Bread Company (* A $/$$)
European-style bakery and cafe. Lunch features fresh sandwiches, soups, and salads; dinner features European-style plates, fondue, pizzas, and pasta with a decent beer and wine list.
Find it: on the east (left) side of Goodwin Ave. just past the 4-way stop at Oregon.

Timpone's (* A $$)
Northern Italian with a great wine list.
Find it: on the east (left) side of Goodwin Ave. past the The Bread Company.

Manolo's Pizza and Empanadas (* L $)
What's better than a slice after a fun night on the town? Empanadas, is what. This place is awesome and open late; but be warned, at 1am, there may be a line.
Find It: This is just 2 doors down from the coffee shop on the corner on Oregon.

The Red Herring (* L $)
Vegetarian/Vegan "hole-in-the-wall"; worth the walk.
Find it: At the 4-way stop at Oregon. turn right. It's located on your left in the basement of its building.

Coffee

Espresso Royale (* $)
A great place to get an espresso after dinner.

Intermezzo Cafe ($)
This cafe is located inside the Krannert Center. The best thing about this cafe are the desserts; however, the center itself is fun to check out and getting coffee is a good excuse to check it out.

Additional restaurants can be found east along Oregon St. including barbeque and Thai.
