Hotels, Meals and Travel Information
Many hotels are in walking distance (or few metro stops) from the Observatoire de Paris.
Lunches will be provided during the IVOA.
We recommend to book you hotels as soon as possible in the following areas: Denfert-Rochereau or Port-Royal areas (walking distance), Montparnasse area (metro stations: Montparnasse, Edgar Quinet, Vavin... on line 4 or 6), the Quartier Latin area (metro stations: Saint-Michel, Luxembourg on RER B line), or near Place d'Italie (metro line 6). Beware that cheap hotels in the Northern part of Paris (near Gare du Nord, for instance) are not the best place to stay in town.
Reaching Denfert-Rochereau and Montparnasse areas is very easy, whether you are coming by Airline or Train.
From CDG Airport (most long distance flights, and some European connections):
- All trains of the RER B line from CDG stops at all stations inside Paris (including the Denfert-Rochereau station). The RER connection is about 45 minutes.
- Bus service (Le Bus Direct, ligne 4) for Montparnasse.
- Flat rate taxi fare from CDG to Paris: 55€ (to South of Seine river), or 50€ (to North of Seine river)
From Orly airport (mostly European connections):
- By train, take the Orlyval train to RER B line, which stops at all stations inside Paris (including the Denfert-Rochereau station). The rail connection is 30 minutes.
- Bus service (OrlyBus) provides a direct service to Denfert-Rochereau.
- Flat rate taxi fare from Orly to Paris: 30€ (to South of Seine river), or 35€ (to North of Seine river)
From the main train stations in Paris:
- Gare du Nord (From UK, Belgium, NL): RER B direct connection to Denfert-Rochereau, métro line 4 direct connection to Montparnasse and Denfert-Rochereau.
- Gare de l'Est (From Germany): métro line 4 direct connection to Montparnasse and Denfert-Rochereau.
If you plan to use low cost flights landing in Beauvais, beware that there is no easy connection to central Paris.
