Review "Publishing data into the VO"

    • Multiple pages in the wiki. We should settle on one, and delete the others to avoid confusion. Delete the others to avoid Google finding them buried in the wiki history. Action on MM: email the Document coordinator. - DONE, see attached file for details
    • Series of simple steps that a publisher would need to follow. Getting the metadata, FITS headers, formats etc right. Then we point out the technical tools. Action on JE: share the slide. - DONE, attached below & added to resource list
    • What does the user want to do? Why do they end up on the IVOA site? We can't predict all of the use cases. Action on AN: Start a webpage to collect information.
    • Make the page a tree structure with links to specific use case (landing) pages. For each use case have a contact person who has done the same thing.
    • Current Q&A looks good as a start, but examples are missing, on real resources and services (+contact points).
    • Adding links to VO Schools (and materials) as a potential starting point and events to look after as a jump-start. Beware: VO Schools are for user, not for providers. But there are tech schools too.
    • Can we have a set of: registry and services in a sandbox to play with?
      Can we have a test registry for the purpose of testing and to be used at schools, which could be added to the drop down menues in tools like Aladin or Topcat ?
      Action on HH: Identify existing tutorial/tools/software to add a section to the newcomer's session "How to publish [Images/Tables] in the VO and make it findable in the registry.

      • Should we add a session as example of publishing in the VO? e.g. easy example: ConeSearch Service? From data to finding your data through the VO Registry. What are the steps? Is this doable for next interop?
      • Improvements / feedback on the existing tutorial? This tutorial -- Idea: add and Intro using the architecture document as reference (CSP?)

      • MM has sorted out the different twiki-pages and made sure they now point to a single one.
      • JE uploaded the presentation slide to the twiki
      • AN set up the web page to collect goals and actions to collect the use cases for publishing in VO. Action is ongoing.
      • HH work on tutorials to be split into 2: newcomers + registering
        • Test the registry part can go through testing registry (Theresa or Markus) [JE] or use a registry in a box [DM]
        • Check ESCAPE work on containerising a registry and see if it's possible by April's Interop [DM] Action DM
        • Q&A page review and completion with examples contacts [FB] - Check if you agree with what I did for images and cubes (text was SIA1 oriented, I don't think we have to promote SIA1 anymore. It's there as a legacy newcomers should go to SIA2 which is closer ObsTAP. For examples my idea is to show queries and explain what it is. Taken from real examples. Do you agree ?
    • Survey to collect information and use cases - News from CSP:
      • The goal is to get in contact with missions who want to make their data visible in the VO and from there we shall feed use cases to our process here. The Survey is based on one that was developed in SouthAfrica 2016, and is currently updated. Exec is informed and asked for support. Send the survey around Action AN.
    • Workshop dedicated to Publishing in the VO - News from EduIG
      • Trying to have EOSC-Future funding for a Publishing Workshop, similar to EPN-VESPA workshops for providers. Not before Fall 2023.
      • JE: creating a preamble to that in 2022 Interop's newcomers could help
    • Newcomers interop session:
