Updated Announcement

The Spring 2006 IVOA Interoperability Workshop will be held in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, hosted by the Canadian VO etc. etc. We expect to have work sessions for all IVOA Working Groups, and Interest Groups.

The chairs of the Working Groups and Interest Groups are requested to prepare summary reports for the opening plenary session that describe progress to date and plans for the Interop meeting.

We look forward to your participation – it is the contributions from all IVOA projects and personnel that make the VO development stimulating and successful!

Location

Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, is located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, on the west coast of Canada. Having the mildest climate in Canada, Victoria is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. Natural beauty abounds from the wealth of flowers and green space to the rugged Pacific coastline and mountain vistas.

Downtown Victoria is a bustle of activity, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops. First Nations art is prevalent in the area, and many local artisans sell their works along the inner harbour. With many Orca (killer whale) pods summering off the coast of Vancouver Island, whale watching is a favourite activity.

The Laurel Point Inn, a true gem of the city, is located on the southern outskirts of Victoria's Inner Harbour, providing lovely views of the the harbour, but from a more secluded vantage point. It is within walking distance of the thriving downtown core, and to the quieter Fisherman's wharf area, where you can stroll among the houseboats while awaiting some of the best fish 'n chips the city has to offer. You may be lucky enough to see some seals being fed off the side of the wharf!

Banquet

The Banquet Dinner will be held in the Terrace Room of the Laurel Point Inn on Thursday, May 18th at 7pm. All participants along with their spouses and children are invited to attend. A fee of $55 will be collected at the registration table for all those who will be attending.

Travel

Travel information for Victoria can be found here. The Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is located about 30 kms north of the city, and a taxi to the hotel will cost ~$40. There is also a shuttle bus which stops at the local hotels and costs ~$15.

Electricity

Electricity in Victoria is 100 - 127 Volts, 60 Hz AC. Further information and a description of plugs can be found here.

Visas

Citizenship and Information Canada provides information on entering Canada and Visa requirements. A list of the countries requiring visas can be found here. If a letter of invitation is required for your visa application, please send an email to Danielle.Frenette@nrc.gc.ca including your complete mailing address.
